The same elements used in the previous logo have been redesigned to reflect the history and culture of the State of Qatar and represent the country’s launch into the future.
The new logo breathes life into the different elements that are important to life in Qatar.
The Jalboot
The first traditional motor-powered boat in the history of the State of Qatar was called “Fath Al-Khair”. It was built in 1900 and owned by Sheikh Hamad bin Abdullah Al Thani. It was usually used in pearl fishing trips and trade, sailing, fishing, and pearling making it the pillar of the Qatari economy in the distant past and the main source of income in the country. The triangular sail is characterized by lines symbolizing the flag of the State of Qatar as it flutters lofty in the seas, giving rise to pride and belonging to the state.
The Sea
It is one of the most prominent symbols of Qatari heritage where the nation once found its wealth and livelihood. It was where the State of Qatar started to build its economy. The waves were drawn using the nine jagged ends of the flag of Qatar, which also represents the power of the sea. Water surrounds the State of Qatar on three sides, and this highlights the importance of the sea in the economic development of the State of Qatar.
The Sword
The founder’s sword is a symbol of courage and strength associated with the wisdom of its owner. The sword has become a symbol for Qataris to cherish and be proud of. It is one of the most prominent pillars used in the state emblem. In the sword, the protection of the homeland, the pride of the side, and the protection of the one who seeks refuge are embodied.
The Palm Tree
The palm tree used in the previous logo was adapted to the new emblem. It is inspired by the palm tree plantation located on the farm of the Father Emir Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani. This indicates the deep interest that the Qatari leadership and people pay to palm trees, which in turn symbolize generosity.
The ‘Lusail’ font
As for the font used in the logo, you may have seen it in one other place: the Qatar National Museum. A modern script was created based on the original manuscripts written by the founder Sheikh Jassim bin Muhammad bin Thani. As for the English calligraphy, it is similarly inspired by Arabic calligraphy and hand movements.
This font is called “Lusail” as the founder ran the country’s affairs from Lusail and took residence there from the end of the nineteenth century until his death in 1913. Lusail is also distinguished by its high rocky hills that sailors know well and constitute an important landmark.
